Role: Software Packaging Engineer
Supporting: Large Financial Services Client
Location: Merrifield, VA or Pensacola, FL (Hybrid)
Assignment Type: Contract Only
Duration: 3 Months
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Software Packaging Engineer to support an enterprise-wide End-of-Life (EOL) Software Management initiative. In this role, you will help identify, assess, and retire legacy, redundant, and unsupported applications while also performing hands-on software packaging and deployment work. This is a highly impactful opportunity for an engineer who enjoys improving enterprise stability, reducing technical debt, and working across multiple technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and support full lifecycle EOL software activities, from discovery through decommissioning
• Conduct environment-wide software discovery and usage analysis
• Identify unsupported, vulnerable, and redundant software titles
• Collaborate with engineering, security, compliance, and project teams to validate EOL candidates
• Manage risks, issues, change requests, and remediation plans
• Document findings, decisions, and technical outcomes
• Present recommendations to both technical and business audiences
• Perform standard software packaging tasks, including:
• Pre-packaging research and validation
• Application packaging, repackaging, and quality control
• MECM integration and application creation
• Install/uninstall validation via MECM
• AD group creation and management
• User and device collection creation
• Supporting UAT, pilot deployments, and production deployments
• Retiring and fully cleaning up legacy software (AD, MECM, MDT)
• Communicate deployment and retirement activities to appropriate stakeholder groups
Qualifications
• Strong understanding of software lifecycle management and EOL processes
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
• Proficiency in PowerShell, SQL, WQL, Power BI, and software inventory tools
• Experience with software packaging, MSI editing, repackaging, and deployment technologies
• Familiarity with Windows 10/11, macOS, and/or VDI enterprise environments
• Experience working within formal change management processes
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years of Software Package Engineering experience
• Experience with Splunk and/or UberAgent
• Experience with InstallShield and Liquidware FlexApp
Compensation and Benefits: The pay rate for this position is between $50.00 and $ 59.46 per hour. Please note that the final rate may be contingent on experience and other factors.
