SQL Migration Engineer

Position: Sybase to SQL Migration Developer Location: New York, NY Duration: Long Term Contract Key Responsibilities: • Lead the end-to-end migration of databases from Sybase ASE/IQ to SQL Server. • Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing Sybase databases, including schema design, data structures, and stored procedures. • Develop detailed migration strategies, including planning, resource allocation, and risk mitigation. • Utilize SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) and other tools to automate and streamline migration tasks. • Rewrite and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects for SQL Server compatibility and performance. • Work closely with application development teams, business analysts, and IT support throughout the migration lifecycle. • Execute thorough testing and validation to ensure accuracy and integrity of migrated data. • Provide post-migration support, including troubleshooting and performance tuning. • Maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, procedures, and best practices. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Technology, or a related field. • Proven experience with Sybase ASE/IQ and SQL Server (administration and development). • Strong expertise in database migration methodologies and tools, particularly SSMA. • Proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and stored procedure development. • Prior experience in capital markets or banking domains is highly desirable. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills. Nice-to-Have Skills: • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other database platforms. • Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes. • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL).
