Role description
Position: Sybase to SQL Migration Developer
Location: New York, NY
Duration: Long Term Contract
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Lead the end-to-end migration of databases from Sybase ASE/IQ to SQL Server.
β’ Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing Sybase databases, including schema design, data structures, and stored procedures.
β’ Develop detailed migration strategies, including planning, resource allocation, and risk mitigation.
β’ Utilize SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) and other tools to automate and streamline migration tasks.
β’ Rewrite and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects for SQL Server compatibility and performance.
β’ Work closely with application development teams, business analysts, and IT support throughout the migration lifecycle.
β’ Execute thorough testing and validation to ensure accuracy and integrity of migrated data.
β’ Provide post-migration support, including troubleshooting and performance tuning.
β’ Maintain comprehensive documentation for processes, procedures, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:
β’ Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Information Technology, or a related field.
β’ Proven experience with Sybase ASE/IQ and SQL Server (administration and development).
β’ Strong expertise in database migration methodologies and tools, particularly SSMA.
β’ Proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and stored procedure development.
β’ Prior experience in capital markets or banking domains is highly desirable.
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
β’ Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
β’ Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other database platforms.
β’ Understanding of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes.
β’ Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL).
