Role description
Job Title: Sr Algorithm and Data Science Engineer Location: 2901 Harbor Bay Parkway, Alameda, CA 94502 Duration: 3 Months Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite Position Summary The Sr. Algorithm and Data Science Engineer is responsible for developing scalable tools that support the design, evaluation, and deployment of decision-support algorithms for next-generation biosensor platforms. This role focuses on building automation pipelines, interactive visualization tools, and reusable frameworks that enhance algorithm development workflows and improve operational efficiency. The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable working across cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable tooling solutions. Experience Required Qualifications • 1–3 years of professional experience Education • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical field Technical Skills • Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, and data manipulation (pandas, NumPy, or similar libraries) • Experience building data visualizations using Matplotlib, Plotly, Streamlit, or equivalent tools • Familiarity with version control systems (Git/GitHub) and collaborative development workflows • Experience working with tabular and time-series data formats (CSV, JSON, structured sensor data) • Hands-on experience integrating generative AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar) into development workflows as productivity accelerators • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to independently scope, design, and deliver end-to-end solutions Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain automation scripts and data pipelines to accelerate the design, testing, and deployment of decision-support algorithms for continuous physiological sensor platforms (e.g., CGMs) • Build interactive visualization tools to support algorithm performance analysis, trend qualification, alert concordance, and clinical feasibility reviews • Design and implement Design of Experiments (DOE) matrices to evaluate algorithm parameter spaces, threshold configurations, and edge-case scenarios • Leverage enterprise AI tools and AI sandboxes (e.g., Copilot, Claude, internal LLM platforms) to prototype, iterate, and scale internal tooling • Create reusable toolkits and templates that enable algorithm developers and clinical scientists to run analyses, generate reports, and compare algorithm variants efficiently • Support data wrangling and transformation workflows by converting raw sensor data exports into structured inputs for algorithm evaluation • Collaborate cross-functionally with data scientists, statisticians, and regulatory/quality teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions • Document tools, workflows, and standard operating procedures to ensure reproducibility and team adoption • Identify opportunities to reduce manual effort, improve turnaround time, and enhance rigor in algorithm development workflows Consultants Eligible Benefits Upon Waiting Period • Medical and Prescription Drug Plans • Dental Plan • Vision Plan • Health Savings Account (for High Deductible Health Plans) • Flexible Spending Accounts (Health, Limited Purpose, Dependent Care, Commuter Parking and Commuter Transit) • Supplemental Life Insurance • Short Term Disability (coverage varies by state) • Long Term Disability • Critical Illness, Hospital coverage, Accident Insurance • MetLife Legal, MetLife ID Fraud, and MetLife Pet Insurance • 401(k) Abbott is a global healthcare leader that helps people live more fully at all stages of life.
