Role description
Sr. AWS Cloud SME | Location: Jackson, MS | Contract We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AWS Cloud SME to lead and support enterprise cloud initiatives within a government or large organization environment. This role involves managing complex AWS environments, designing scalable solutions, and guiding cloud modernization efforts to ensure security, compliance, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities • Administer and maintain the AWS Organization and Control Tower environment, ensuring adherence to security, compliance, and governance standards. • Design, review, and implement scalable, secure, and highly available AWS solutions aligned with organizational needs. • Lead architectural reviews and provide guidance on cloud design decisions for multi-account AWS environments. • Support cloud migrations, application modernization, and AWS adoption strategies for agency stakeholders. • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to automate infrastructure deployment. • Troubleshoot complex networking, compute, storage, identity, and security issues within AWS environments. • Collaborate with security teams to enforce AWS security best practices, including IAM policies, SCPs, encryption, and network segmentation. • Manage connectivity between AWS and on-premises infrastructure, supporting hybrid cloud architectures. • Mentor internal staff and agency personnel on AWS technologies and cloud best practices, contributing to the Cloud Center of Excellence. • Develop and maintain technical standards, architecture documentation, operational procedures, and training materials. • Partner with vendors and internal teams to evaluate and integrate cloud solutions, communicating technical concepts effectively. Required Qualifications • Extensive hands-on experience designing, implementing, and supporting AWS environments. • Deep knowledge of AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, CloudFormation, and experience managing multi-account AWS organizations. • Strong understanding of AWS Control Tower and Landing Zone architectures. • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK. • Strong networking and connectivity troubleshooting skills. • Experience implementing AWS security and governance best practices. • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies. • Experience with container technologies such as ECS and EKS. • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills. • Proven ability to mentor and develop technical staff. Preferred Qualifications • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional. • Experience working in government or highly regulated environments, with familiarity of compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, CJIS, or IRS 1075. • Knowledge of hybrid-cloud or multi-cloud environments. • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
