Job Title: Sr. Data Engineer – Microsoft Fabric / Azure Databricks
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid – On-site Tues–Thurs)
The GA Department of Early Care & Learning (DECAL) is modernizing its data landscape and seeking a Sr. Data Engineer to support the transition from legacy systems to a modern, scalable Azure-based data architecture. You’ll play a key role in building data pipelines, modeling, and visualization frameworks that drive data-informed decision-making.
Responsibilities:
• Design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Microsoft Fabric and Azure Databricks
• Implement Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for data quality and lifecycle
• Build curated datasets for Power BI dashboards and reports
• Collaborate with analysts, data stewards, and business stakeholders
• Apply governance practices including row-level security and data masking
• Use Azure DevOps for CI/CD and workflow monitoring
• Support data migration from legacy systems including SQL Server and SSRS
Required Experience:
• 5+ years in Data Engineering
• Strong SQL, Python, Spark skills
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, and Power BI
• Solid understanding of data warehousing & pipeline development
• Familiar with Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalog
• Bachelor's degree in CS, IT, or related field
Nice to Have:
• Certifications like Azure Data Engineer Associate or Fabric Analytics Engineer
• Experience with government or regulatory environments
• Familiarity with FIPS 199, NIST, and legacy reporting modernization
Location Requirements:
Candidates must reside in metro Atlanta and be able to work on-site Tuesday to Thursday (subject to manager’s discretion).
