Job Purpose: This senior-level role is responsible for shaping the data architecture and governance framework across a complex operations ecosystem. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in relational, NoSQL, and streaming data platforms, ideally within large-scale or transportation-related environments. The position focuses on designing enterprise-grade data models, defining architecture standards, optimizing performance, and ensuring security, scalability, and integrity of the organizationβs data assets. Requirements: Key Responsibilities:
Lead the creation and evolution of data and information architecture for Transportation Operations platforms.
Define and govern data standards, including event schemas and API contracts, ensuring consistency and reusability.
Collaborate with business stakeholders, analysts, solution architects, and engineers to align designs with enterprise architecture.
Advise on the selection and application of modern data platforms and integration technologies.
Design and implement advanced data models for structured databases, event-driven systems, and APIs.
Optimize database and query performance; apply advanced tuning techniques.
Ensure data quality and integrity across multiple, distributed systems.
Participate in architecture reviews and provide actionable recommendations for improvement.
Mentor and support technical teams in the adoption of modern data technologies.
Proactively identify and resolve data architecture-related issues.
Continuously evaluate emerging data tools and practices for applicability to enterprise use.
Develop and enforce best practices for database security, lifecycle management, and maintenance.
Ensure alignment with Amtrakβs Enterprise Information Management (EIM) architecture and data standards.
Required Skills & Experience:
15+ years of experience in data architecture, modeling, and engineering in complex enterprise environments.
Deep understanding of relational, NoSQL, and streaming data technologies (e.g., SQL Server, MongoDB, Kafka, etc.).
Demonstrated success in designing scalable and secure data architectures.
Strong proficiency in data modeling techniques (conceptual, logical, and physical models).
Expertise in API and event contract design across integrated systems.
Proven experience with performance tuning and optimization of complex queries and databases.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence architectural decisions.
Strong communication and documentation skills, with a strategic mindset.
Familiarity with enterprise architecture and data governance frameworks.
Prior experience in transportation or rail industry is highly preferred.
