Role description
Job Title: Database Engineer Location: Remote (US Central or Eastern time zone ) Duration: 6-8 weeks (potentially extensions) Rate: Competitive Start: ASAP Project Overview A structured Proof of Concept (PoC) is being conducted to evaluate Cohesity and Commvault as enterprise backup and restore solutions. The contractor will lead technical validation across multiple database platforms and environments, including physical servers and Red Hat cloud platforms (OpenStack and OpenShift). Responsibilities • Coordinate with vendors to assess integration, licensing, and platform support. • Collaborate with DBAs and infrastructure teams to gather requirements and plan environments. • Deploy test environments for Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, MongoDB, Cassandra, and Couchbase. • Document firewall requirements and validate connectivity. • Create compatibility matrices for database, OS, and backup tools. • Execute and monitor backup/restore operations, including PITR and failure recovery. • Conduct performance analysis and large-scale testing. • Provide weekly status reports and maintain meeting documentation. • Evaluate vendors using a structured scoring model and deliver a final recommendation. Qualifications • Experience with enterprise backup tools (Cohesity, Commvault preferred) • Strong knowledge of RDBMS and NoSQL databases • Familiarity with Red Hat OpenStack/OpenShift • Understanding of network/firewall configurations • Proven ability to lead PoC initiatives and produce detailed technical reports
