Type: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Level: Mid to Senior (5–7+ Years of Experience)
About the Role
We are actively seeking 2–3 Senior Python Developers with strong experience in cloud-native engineering, DevOps practices, and automation. These hybrid roles sit at the intersection of software development and DevOps, and offer an opportunity to work with a modern AWS-centric stack to build scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions for investment platforms.
You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering end-to-end technical solutions, contributing to architecture, development, automation, deployment, and support of critical systems. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in Python, AWS services, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Terraform, with bonus points for exposure to Jenkins, Snowflake, and institutional investment systems.
Responsibilities
• Python Development: Build scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications using Python, with a focus on analytics and data processing.
• AWS Cloud Engineering: Leverage AWS services (Lambda, ECS Fargate, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, SQS/SNS/EventBridge, API Gateway, Step Functions) to implement secure, high-performance, and cost-effective cloud solutions.
• Containerization & Serverless: Develop and deploy containerized applications using Docker and ECS; build serverless solutions via AWS Lambda.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Use Terraform and AWS CDK to define and manage infrastructure consistently across environments.
• CI/CD Automation: Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub, and other tools to enable frequent, reliable deployments.
• DevOps & SRE: Apply Site Reliability Engineering principles to ensure uptime, monitoring, and performance of production systems.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, DevOps, QA) in an Agile/Scrum environment, engaging in sprint planning, code reviews, and architecture discussions.
• Monitoring & Observability: Use tools such as CloudWatch, Airflow, and custom metrics to proactively monitor application health and trigger automated alerts.
• Mentorship: Coach junior developers and peers; share best practices in Python, DevOps, and cloud-native development.
• Agile Execution: Participate in Agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and backlog grooming using Jira.
Required Qualifications
• Experience: 5–7+ years in software engineering, with a focus on Python and cloud systems.
• Cloud: Advanced knowledge of AWS services including:
• Lambda, API Gateway, ECS Fargate, Step Functions
• RDS, S3, DynamoDB
• SQS, SNS, EventBridge
• Python Expertise: Strong experience developing robust, production-grade applications with Python, especially in analytics, async processing, and API development.
• CI/CD & DevOps: Hands-on experience with:
• Jenkins, GitHub Actions or similar
• Docker containers and orchestration
• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CDK
• Networking & Security: Understanding of VPC, IAM, security groups, roles, and cloud networking fundamentals.
• Agile & SDLC: Demonstrated ability to work within Agile teams, contributing throughout the SDLC (design, test, deploy, support).
Preferred Qualifications
• Investment Domain: Familiarity with institutional investment workflows and platforms.
• Cloud Certifications: AWS Developer, AWS Solutions Architect, or relevant certifications.
• Snowflake Experience: Building or integrating with Snowflake data pipelines and analytics.
• Additional DevOps Tools: Airflow, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Additional Tech Stack: PostgreSQL, Athena, Redshift, Parquet, OpenSearch.
• Programming Languages: Exposure to Go, Java, or JavaScript is a plus.
• SRE Practices: Prior experience in SRE or related certifications is a plus.
Work Environment
• Location: Fully remote; preference for candidates in Central or Eastern Time Zones. Candidates in or near St. Louis, MO are encouraged to apply due to occasional in-person collaboration.
• Work Hours: Standard Central Time business hours.
• Team Structure: Agile teams with dedicated Project Managers, DevOps Engineers, and Cloud Architects.
