Role description
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on Tableau Developer to join the cMARS team and help strengthen a data-driven culture across R&D.
In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize intuitive, high-impact Tableau dashboards that transform complex enterprise R&D data into meaningful business insights. You will work closely with data engineers and business analysts to deliver scalable, high-performing, and analytically robust visualizations.
This is a hands-on development role, not a reporting or coordination position. Success in this role requires strong Tableau expertise, SQL proficiency, analytical thinking, and the ability to translate evolving business requirements into effective data solutions.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Design, develop, and maintain interactive, user-focused dashboards and reports using Tableau.
β’ Translate business requirements into clear, insightful visualizations and compelling data stories.
β’ Develop advanced Tableau visualizations, including:
β’ Drill-downs and hierarchical navigation
β’ Heat maps, box plots, trend analysis, and statistical charts
β’ Dynamic dashboards using parameters and dashboard actions
β’ Build and optimize complex Tableau calculations, including:
β’ Level of Detail (LOD) expressions
β’ Table calculations
β’ Conditional logic and dynamic formatting
β’ Ensure dashboards are accurate, scalable, and optimized for performance.
β’ Create and maintain dashboard documentation, including mapping specifications, test dashboards, and testing scripts.
β’ Partner with data engineers to:
β’ Define and refine data tables for dashboard consumption
β’ Ensure data quality and usability for analytics
β’ Collaborate with business analysts to refine wireframes, metrics, and functional requirements.
β’ Apply data visualization best practices to improve usability, clarity, and performance.
β’ Troubleshoot data and visualization issues by identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
What Makes You Successful
β’ You design meaningful user experiences, not just dashboards.
β’ You validate data and question results before presenting insights.
β’ You are comfortable working with ambiguous requirements and shaping effective solutions.
β’ You focus equally on technical excellence and business value.
Required Qualifications
β’ Bachelor's degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field.
β’ 5+ years of hands-on Tableau dashboard development experience.
β’ Strong experience building interactive dashboards and complex visualizations.
β’ 3+ years of SQL experience, including:
β’ Joins
β’ Aggregations
β’ Subqueries
β’ Data exploration and validation
β’ Solid understanding of data modeling and relational databases such as Redshift, Oracle, and Snowflake.
β’ Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
β’ Experience using JIRA, Confluence, and Microsoft Excel.
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Tableau Certification (e.g., Tableau Certified Data Analyst).
β’ Experience working with R&D or clinical trials data within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
β’ Experience developing dashboards for enterprise-scale data environments.
β’ Familiarity with Tableau performance optimization techniques.
Role Expectations
β’ This is a purely hands-on Tableau development role.
β’ Daily work will involve developing dashboards and writing SQL queries.
β’ Candidates should be able to:
β’ Build Tableau dashboards independently.
β’ Solve complex data and visualization challenges.
β’ Deliver high-quality solutions while working with evolving business requirements.
