Role description
SUSTAINABILITY DATA ANALYST
Launch your career at the intersection of global real estate and environmental impact by transforming complex utility data into actionable sustainability insights. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience with ESG reporting and carbon tracking for one of the world’s largest commercial property portfolios.
In this role, you will bridge the gap between financial data and environmental responsibility for a global leader in commercial real estate services. Based in a prime West Loop Chicago location with a flexible three-day in-office hybrid schedule, this 11-month contract offers a deep dive into the mechanics of corporate sustainability. You will ensure the integrity of utility spend and emissions data that directly informs the ESG strategy of a Fortune 500 firm.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Manage and validate high-volume utility data across electric, gas, water, and waste categories to ensure accuracy for a massive national portfolio.
• Transform raw invoice data into clear, executive-ready visualizations using Power BI and Excel to drive cost optimization and energy efficiency.
• Support high-priority environmental initiatives by preparing data sets for Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions reporting and greenhouse gas accounting.
• Perform rigorous data cleansing and normalization across multiple sources to maintain a "single source of truth" for sustainability metrics.
• Collaborate with cross-functional finance and real estate teams to identify billing variances and improve data-tracking methodologies.
• Contribute to the documentation of controls and assumptions that define the organization’s global environmental footprint.
WHAT YOU BRING
• A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Data Analytics, Economics, or a Sustainability-related field.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including a mastery of pivot tables and complex formulas to manipulate large datasets.
• Familiarity with data visualization and project management tools such as Smartsheet, Power BI, or Tableau.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to perform variance analysis and reconciliation on utility-related expenses.
• An interest in or academic exposure to ESG reporting, energy management, or GHG accounting frameworks.
• The analytical rigor required to catch discrepancies in complex utility tariffs and rate structures.
WHY THIS ROLE
• Real-World ESG Impact: Work at the forefront of the corporate sustainability movement, helping a global leader meet its carbon reduction and environmental goals.
• High-Visibility Experience: Your analysis will directly inform leadership decisions regarding utility spend and environmental impact across premier institutional assets.
• Professional Foundation: This nearly year-long engagement offers a comprehensive training ground in institutional data management, making you a highly marketable candidate for any ESG or Finance career path.
COMPENSATION
This engagement offers a competitive hourly rate of $29.00 - $32.00 depending on experience.
