Role description
Mission Statement: To awaken the world’s love for learning by building the most inspiring education platform of our time—where every lesson is powered by excellence, every game by joy, and every learner by AI. We begin with English, but our mission is vast: to carry the torch of education into every home, every heart, and every nation. From 22 years of unmatched teaching, we now rise as a digital force—reimagining what learning can be for the billions still waiting. Location: Remote (Global) Position Type: Contracted Applicants must be able to work EST. We are seeking an AI Engineer to join our growing team and support the development of scalable, production-grade AI systems using large language models. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment and is ready to contribute to high-impact features that serve real learners. You’ll work alongside our Lead AI Engineer to build, test, and refine AI-powered tools designed for educational use. The ideal candidate has experience building agentic systems, working with LangChain or LangGraph, and integrating with production back ends using Django or FastAPI. You should be comfortable prototyping rapidly, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and applying guardrails and evaluation methods to improve the reliability of AI interactions. Experience with tools such as Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Pinecone, and Redis will be valuable, as will familiarity with cloud services like AWS or GCP. This is a collaborative, execution-focused role that requires attention to detail, responsiveness to feedback, and a strong sense of ownership over the systems you help build. You will not be responsible for selecting the overall architecture or tools but will play a critical role in delivering, optimizing, and maintaining what we build. Key Responsibilities • Design and implement components of agentic AI systems using LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration frameworks • Support integration with back-end infrastructure using Django, FastAPI, and production-grade APIs • Contribute to fast prototyping and iterative development of AI-powered tools aligned with instructional and user goals • Assist in implementing guardrails, testing protocols, and evaluation processes to ensure output quality and alignment • Work with tools like Deepgram and ElevenLabs for speech-to-text (STT) and text-to-speech (TTS) functionality • Interact with vector databases such as Pinecone, and manage data storage using PostgreSQL or Redis • Deploy services in cloud environments including GCP and AWS, with attention to scalability and reliability • Collaborate closely with the Lead AI Engineer and cross-functional teams to translate functional requirements into system behavior • Deliver clean, well-documented code ready for handoff or integration into production systems • Participate in system-level debugging, performance tuning, and enhancements as needed Qualifications • Experience developing AI-powered systems using Python and modern AI frameworks such as LangChain or LangGraph • Familiarity with agentic system design, including orchestration, evaluation methods, and reliability tooling such as Guardrails AI • Working knowledge of back-end frameworks such as Django or FastAPI, with the ability to build and maintain APIs • Experience integrating speech technologies like Deepgram (STT) and ElevenLabs (TTS) into AI workflows • Comfort working with vector databases such as Pinecone, and structured storage tools like PostgreSQL or Redis • Exposure to cloud infrastructure (preferably GCP or AWS) and production deployment workflows • Demonstrated ability to rapidly prototype, iterate, and contribute to MVP-level features • Strong communication skills and experience working on cross-functional teams • Motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of delivering clean, well-documented code in a fast-paced, remote environment Physical Requirements This is a remote, computer-based role. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a desk, as well as regular use of a computer, mouse, and keyboard. Additional Information • This is a contracted position. All work is project based and does not constitute an offer of employment • Contractors are responsible for providing their own computer, internet access, and working environment. Access to required software will be provided by Our English Group, LLC • Compensation and scope of work will be outlined in a separate contractor agreement • Compensation will be processed through Rippling, with currency and payment preferences set up based on contractor onboarding details • Contractors are responsible for complying with any applicable tax or invoicing requirements • All work produced is the property of Our English Group, LLC and may not be used or distributed without written permission • Selected applicants may be asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement and/or independent contractor agreement prior to starting work • Contractors may be required to complete basic data security training and adhere to Our English Group, LLC confidentiality and content protection standards
