Role description
AI Product Developer | Python | LLMs | USC
Location: Remote
Contract: 6 months
Clearance Requirement: U.S. Citizenship (per federal contract requirements)
Our client is seeking a skilled AI Product Developer with strong Python expertise to join their team. You’ll design and integrate AI-powered features—focusing on embedding-based systems, semantic search, and large language models (LLMs)—with an initial project building an Outlook bot and opportunities to develop other AI-driven tools like SharePoint widgets.
This is an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge AI technologies, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and see your innovations directly impact business operations.
What You’ll Do
• Develop and maintain embedding-based systems and LLM integrations for AI-driven products.
• Build AI-powered capabilities including semantic search, summarization, drafting assistance, and context-aware recommendations.
• Architect APIs and backend services (FastAPI or similar) to expose AI functionality to client apps (including VSTO add-ins for Microsoft Outlook).
• Integrate self-hosted and cloud-based AI models into production.
• Implement scalable solutions for data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model serving.
• Apply generative AI techniques: prompt engineering, fine-tuning LLMs, and building chatbots/Q&A tools.
• Ensure compliance with data security, privacy, and responsible AI standards.
• Collaborate with the DLA team to support and integrate self-hosted AI models.
• Monitor and optimize AI features for performance and reliability.
Required Skills
• AI/NLP Expertise: Strong experience with LLMs (OpenAI, HuggingFace Transformers), vector embeddings, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Generative AI: Prompt engineering, fine-tuning, chatbot development.
• API & Backend Development: Python APIs (preferably FastAPI), integrating AI into production systems.
• Data Engineering: Preprocessing, feature extraction, embedding storage/retrieval.
• Search & Ranking: Semantic search, hybrid/fusion ranking, metadata-based boosting.
• DevOps: Docker, CI/CD, cloud/on-prem deployment.
• Security & Compliance: Privacy-aware AI deployment.
• Strong documentation and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
• C# experience.
• Familiarity with Azure or other cloud platforms.
Environment: Initial focus on an Outlook bot using VSTO + Python APIs, with opportunities to work on a range of AI-driven applications.
