Scientific Application Cloud Engineer
Location - Cambridge MA (hybrid - 3 days a week)
About The Role - Mid-Level Application Cloud Engineer
We are seeking a Mid-Level Scientific Application Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, and maintain cloud-based applications and infrastructure. You will collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to build/manage scalable, reliable, and secure solutions across our cloud environments (AWS, Azure). The ideal candidate is comfortable with both application-level and infrastructure-level engineering and has hands-on experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines.
Key Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain cloud-based applications and infrastructure using AWS and some Azure technologies.
Support application development teams in deploying, scaling, and monitoring microservices and serverless applications.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or ARM templates.
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools.
Monitor application performance and troubleshoot issues related to cloud environments.
Work with security teams to ensure compliance with cloud governance and best practices.
Optimize cost, performance, and reliability across cloud workloads.
Automate operational tasks and improve system efficiency through scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
Participate in on-call rotations and incident response when necessary.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Prior experience supporting Pharma/Biotech scientific applications
3 5 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, or software infrastructure roles.
Proficiency with one or more major cloud platforms (AWS).
Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, or GKE).
Strong understanding of networking, load balancing, and cloud security fundamentals.
Familiarity with CI/CD, version control (Git), and automation tools.
Good problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
Preferred:
Pharma\Biotech IT experience in supporting scientific applications
Cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate).
Knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and modern application architectures.
Exposure to Agile/Scrum development practices.
Soft Skills
Strong communication and documentation abilities.
Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
Eagerness to learn and adopt new technologies.
