Role description
AI Developer & Engineer (Behavioral Science – SmartWalls™ AI + AltaVista AI) Company: AltaVista AI™ + Urbana Systems™ + SmartWalls™ Location: Remote (U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident required) Employment Type: Independent Contractor under PSC + SOW (Project-based engagement) Hiring Mode: Building a multidisciplinary team of senior AI Developer/Engineers (multiple openings) About Urbana Systems™ and SmartWalls™ Urbana Systems™ is reimagining adaptive reuse and sustainable living through technology. SmartWalls™ integrates AI-driven environmental management, modular design, and sustainable systems to provide affordable homeownership and healthier living environments. Behavioral Science is core to SmartWalls™: our systems adapt to human behavior, community dynamics, and non-human life (plants, microbiomes, air/water ecosystems) to create spaces that are intuitive, safe, and sustainable. Role Overview We are assembling a team of AI Developer & Engineer experts who can operate within the parameters of Behavioral Science to design, develop, and deploy SmartWalls™ AI. You will build behaviorally adaptive, real-time systems that learn from multi‑modal inputs (voice, motion, environmental sensors, social interaction patterns) and optimize safety, comfort, and resource use across live residential environments. Key Responsibilities • Architect and implement AI frameworks for behaviorally adaptive SmartWalls™. • Translate behavioral science insights (human routines, safety behaviors, stress responses, communal interactions) into AI logic and models. • Build and deploy ML/NLP/NN/SLM modules that process multi‑modal sensor streams and resident interactions. • Optimize energy, air/water quality, safety, and comfort using predictive and adaptive control. • Develop simulation and digital‑twin environments to test models against behavioral scenarios. • Ensure privacy, security, and ethical AI throughout the stack; contribute to validation protocols. • Document workflows, datasets, and validation methods for Knowledge Net™. • Collaborate tightly with behavioral scientists, architects, systems engineers, and data teams. Qualifications Required • 15+ years of proven experience designing, deploying, and maintaining production AI systems (Python; frameworks such as PyTorch/TensorFlow/JAX; MLOps/inference at scale). • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in AI, Cognitive/Behavioral Science, Systems Engineering, HCI, or related. • Demonstrated expertise in behavioral modeling, human‑system interaction, and adaptive control. • Experience integrating AI with IoT/sensor networks and real‑time data pipelines. • Proven track record shipping non‑LLM applied AI (custom ML/NLP/NN/graph/reinforcement learning systems) in safety‑ or mission‑critical contexts. • Experience with Specialized Language Models (SLMs) and multi‑agent systems. • Background in architecture, environmental systems, building controls, or adaptive reuse. • Consultancy experience; capable of managing workstreams and budgets as an independent contractor. • U.S. Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident. Excellent communication and cross‑disciplinary collaboration. What Success Looks Like • SmartWalls™ AI adapts seamlessly to human behavior while reducing energy and resource waste. • Models learn and improve with usage, without compromising privacy or safety. • Cross‑disciplinary handoffs are tight, documented, and production‑ready. Compensation & Structure • Project‑based compensation under PSC + SOW. • Potential for long‑term collaboration and performance‑based equity for exceptional contributors. How to Apply (Applications lacking any of the below will not be reviewed.) Email the following to walter.moss@altavista-ai.com and walter.moss@waltermoss.com with the subject line: “AI Dev/Eng – Behavioral Science – SmartWalls” • Resume/CV (include links to shipped products and repositories where possible). • Dissertation and/or peer‑reviewed publications (PDFs or links). • Portfolio of applied work: at least one online, running application not based on an LLM, implementing your own ML/NLP/NN/graph/RL methods. Include a short technical note describing: • Problem framing, data sources, model family & architecture • Training regimen, validation metrics, and failure modes • Inference stack, latency/throughput, and monitoring • One‑page design brief: how you would implement a behaviorally adaptive SmartWalls™ control loop (sensing → inference → actuation) with privacy and safety constraints. • Verification materials: names/contact for 2–3 references who can attest to 15+ years of production AI work. • Process readiness: confirm you are willing to (a) pass a technical test, (b) complete an interview with the Behavioral Science Team, and (c) answer all screening questions in full. • Must complete the following questions: Screening Questions – Brief Answer (with examples required) 1. Describe a project where you deployed a non‑LLM adaptive AI system in production. What problem did it solve? 1. Give an example of how you have integrated behavioral science insights into an AI system. 1. What failure modes did you discover in your past models, and how did you mitigate them? 1. Describe your experience building digital twins or simulation environments. 1. Explain a time you optimized resource efficiency (energy, water, or data throughput) with AI. 1. Give an example of developing multi‑modal models (sensors, voice, motion). 1. Describe your experience with reinforcement learning in real‑time environments. 1. Provide a case where privacy and ethics shaped your AI design. 1. Share an example of managing a project as an independent contractor/consultant. 1. Explain how you validated and documented a system for stakeholders. 1. What is your experience with Specialized Language Models (SLMs)? Example. 1. Describe your most challenging cross‑disciplinary collaboration. 1. Explain how you monitored inference pipelines at scale. 1. Share an example of applying AI to architecture/environmental systems. 1. Provide a case where you balanced safety‑critical constraints with system performance. Applications lacking any of the above will not be reviewed. Urgency: We are hiring multiple senior experts immediately to form the core SmartWalls™ AI team. Ready to build environments that learn?
