Apex Systems is hiring a BI Analyst for a large Healthcare client.
Location: Fully remote anywhere in the United States.
Employment Type: 1+ year contract with possibility to extend.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Reporting Analyst/BI Developer with a focus on visualization in Power BI. This role is central to a modernization initiative, involving the conversion of legacy on-premise reports and the creation of new operational reports. The reports will primarily support underwriting leadership with analytics on profitability, fund management, and related decision insights.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop visualizations and build net new operational reports using Power BI.
• Utilize strong Power BI expertise, including DAX and Power Query.
• Work within a Scrum team, collaborating with a Product Owner, Business Analyst, and Solution Designers.
• Apply strong SQL skills, working primarily within the Databricks platform and connecting to on-premise Oracle databases.
• Perform semantic modeling in both Power BI and Databricks.
• Contribute to the optimization of data models, including star schema modeling, for business-specific assembly and building the view layer.
• Gather and analyze reporting requirements from business stakeholders.
• Design and develop data models for dashboards and static reports.
• Develop and execute test cases for reporting solutions.
Required Qualifications
Experience: Proven experience as a Reporting Analyst or BI Developer.
Technical Skills:
• Strong expertise in Power BI, including DAX and Power Query.
• Proficiency in SQL.
• Experience with BI tools such as Crystal Reports and Jasper.
• Familiarity with relational databases like Oracle or SQL Server, and modern platforms like Postgres.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Familiarity with Databricks and Lakehouse architecture.
• Understanding of UX principles for dashboards and reports.
Preferred Qualifications
• Exposure to ML concepts and predictive analytics.
• Knowledge of the Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate.
• Experience with automated testing tools such as QuerySurge or UIPath.
• Understanding of data preparation, integration, and curation.
Work Environment
This role operates within an Agile environment, characterized by two-week sprints and five-to-six sprint Program Increments. The team is engaged in a cloud-first modernization initiative utilizing Databricks, the Power Platform, and various automation tools.
