Job Title: Business Analyst β UK Accounting, Financial Risk & Compliance
Location: Ashford (Surrey) β Hybrid (minimum 2β4 days per month onsite)
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract (12 months, with potential extension for an additional 8 months)

Reports To: Founder / Product Owner
Role Overview
We are expanding our UK-based accounting application, scheduled for release in early 2027, and are seeking a Business Analyst with strong UK accounting domain knowledge to support the next phase of product development. This role is ideal for a finance professional looking to transition into software developmentβtranslating accounting standards into system logic, shaping modules, and ensuring compliance with UK regulatory frameworks.
The selected candidate will play a critical role in bridging financial expertise with product execution, particularly across statutory reporting, auditability, and financial risk components within the application.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Logic Integration
β’ Translate UK GAAP and IFRS workflows into robust software logic and rule-based engines.
Feature Development
β’ Prototype, validate, and refine modules related to ledger management, VAT processing, statutory filings, and financial statement generation.
Data Validation & Reconciliation
β’ Design and test automated reconciliation mechanisms, anomaly detection tools, and audit-readiness features.
Regulatory Compliance
β’ Embed UK-specific compliance rules (HMRC VAT standards, Companies House formats, statutory reporting requirements) within the platform.
Documentation & QA
β’ Produce clear, audit-grade documentation covering accounting logic, assumptions, acceptance criteria, and test cases.
Cross-functional Collaboration
β’ Partner with engineering, product, and legal teams to ensure financial domain accuracy and technical feasibility throughout development.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
β’ Background in audit, financial analysis, technical accounting, or regulatory compliance (ACA part-qualified advantageous).
β’ Strong familiarity with UK GAAP, IFRS, and statutory reporting requirements.
β’ Experience using analytical or data-processing tools (e.g., STATA, Alteryx, Excel).
β’ Interest in Python, scripting, or low-code platforms for workflow automation.
β’ Excellent documentation, analytical, and communication skills.
β’ Strong motivation to convert financial rules into functional software features.
Bonus Skills:
β’ Experience with commercial accounting platforms (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks).
β’ Understanding of HMRC APIs, Companies House filing specifications, or digital submission workflows.
β’ Exposure to financial risk assessment or internal control frameworks.
β’ ACA, ACCA, or Bloomberg certifications.
