Position Summary
The Senior Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, and administration of a highly available hybrid cloud environment. This position supports the stability, scalability, and security of cloud and on-premise infrastructure, enabling seamless operations for business-critical applications.
Operating as part of an agile shared services team, the engineer focuses on automation, proactive monitoring, and process improvement. This is a mid-senior level technical role that emphasizes strong hands-on experience and collaboration, rather than high-level architecture or management responsibilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain and monitor Azure cloud environments, systems hardware, and network infrastructure for optimal performance and availability.
Track and assess cloud maintenance activities and outages; develop strategies to minimize downtime and operational impact.
Collaborate with development and project teams to provision, configure, and optimize infrastructure resources.
Automate infrastructure deployment using templates, scripts, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.
Optimize configurations for IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS services across hybrid environments.
Support capacity planning, system monitoring, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives.
Create and maintain technical documentation for configuration standards, processes, and procedures.
Troubleshoot connectivity, performance, and security issues, providing detailed analysis and resolution plans.
Participate in infrastructure roadmap planning and implementation for cloud and hybrid systems.
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely resolution of technical issues.
Participate in the on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline required.
Experience
8+ years of progressive experience in computing or network infrastructure.
3+ years of hands-on experience in a cloud environment (Azure preferred) as a cloud engineer, administrator, or DevOps professional.
Demonstrated success in building, maintaining, and automating cloud infrastructure.
Strong experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration-as-Code tools.
Proficiency in managing both on-premises and cloud environments (Azure or AWS).
Familiarity with CI/CD platforms (e.g., Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar).
Experience with load balancing, system monitoring, and DevOps practices.
Preferred exposure to:
Microsoft Windows Server (2012-2019)
Linux/Unix systems
Virtual machine and container technologies
Cloud security and monitoring tools
Cisco routing/switching platforms
Cloud-based firewall technologies (e.g., Palo Alto)
Certifications
Azure certifications preferred.
AWS certifications a plus.
Cisco certifications (CCNA, CCNP) a plus.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning capabilities.
Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve technical issues with minimal supervision.
Solid understanding of networking, virtualization, and cloud computing principles.
Strong documentation and reporting skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
