Data Architect (DataBricks) - Contract opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Azure Databricks Architect for an exciting contract role based in Reading. This is an excellent opportunity to lead innovative data architecture and engineering projects within a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Design, develop, and optimise enterprise-scale data architectures and pipelines using Azure Databricks.
β’ Architect and manage data workflows in line with the Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
β’ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable ML Operations (MLOps), ensuring smooth deployment and operationalisation of machine learning models.
β’ Provide architectural leadership in the design of cloud-native, Azure-based data platforms.
β’ Maintain and enforce best practices in data governance, quality, security, and compliance across all environments.
β’ Offer technical leadership and mentoring to data engineering teams, driving the adoption of modern data platform patterns.
Key Requirements:
β’ Proven experience as a Databricks Architect or Senior Data Engineer transitioning into architecture roles.
β’ Minimum of 3 yearsβ experience working with Databricks in a production environment, preferably within Azure ecosystems.
β’ Expertise in Azure data services (Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory) and integration with Databricks.
β’ Proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark for advanced data engineering and analytics workloads.
β’ Multiple Azure certifications related to data and cloud architecture (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect).
β’ In-depth understanding of ETL processes, data modelling, and modern cloud data architectures.
β’ Practical experience with MLOps frameworks and deployment pipelines.
β’ Strong knowledge of the Medallion Architecture lifecycle (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and its implementation within Databricks.
β’ Excellent analytical skills with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

Location: Reading (3 days on site)
Duration: 6 month contract with opportunity of extension
