Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Data Architect/Data Engineer to design, modernize, secure, and support enterprise data platforms within a federal environment. This role blends strategic data architecture with deep database engineering and operational support responsibilities. Ability to lead data architecture efforts while actively supporting database security remediation, Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migrations, and production data tool support. This position requires close collaboration with federal stakeholders, application teams, and infrastructure teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant data solutions.Key ResponsibilitiesEnterprise Data Architecture
Design and maintain enterprise data architecture frameworks, models, and standards
Develop logical and physical data models for structured and unstructured data
Define data integration strategies across multiple systems and platforms
Establish data governance, data quality, metadata management, and master data standards
Review and approve data design artifacts including schemas, pipelines, and ETL processes
Document architecture decisions, workflows, and technical standards
Provide guidance on cloud-based and on-prem data architectures
Database Security & Compliance (Task 1)
Identify, assess, and remediate security findings across Oracle, MySQL, and middleware servers/databases
Perform vulnerability remediation, patching, and configuration hardening
Ensure compliance with federal security controls and data protection standards
Partner with cybersecurity teams on audit findings and POA&M items
Implement database security best practices (access controls, encryption, auditing)
Deliverable 1: Generate status and completion reports on security findings remediation.Database Migration & Modernization (Task 2)
Lead and support migration of Oracle databases to PostgreSQL in on-prem environments
Collaborate with application teams to convert PL/SQL procedures, packages, and functions to PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL)
Analyze legacy database dependencies and develop migration strategies and runbooks
Develop automation scripts and validation procedures for migration activities
Troubleshoot and resolve post-migration performance and functional issues
Support data-driven modernization initiatives including analytics and AI/ML enablement
Deliverable 2: Generate end-to-end migration reports and fully document the migration process.Data Platform Engineering & Operational Support (Task 3)
Monitor and support enterprise tools including EACT, ETT, and WPG
Maintain and enhance CIDR monitoring scripts and related workflows
Handle incoming support tickets related to EIS datasets and access tools
Diagnose and resolve production issues within defined SLAs
Improve reliability, observability, and performance of supported systems
Collaborate with DevOps, infrastructure, and application teams
Deliverable 3: Resolve EIS support tickets in a timely manner for internal data and access tools.Required Qualifications
10+ years of experience in Data Architecture, Data Engineering, or Database Engineering
Strong hands-on experience with:
Oracle Database
PostgreSQL
MySQL
Deep knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL frameworks
Experience with database security remediation and vulnerability management
Proficiency in SQL performance tuning and query optimization
Experience supporting production systems in ticket-driven environments
Strong understanding of federal security and compliance requirements
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience supporting U.S. Federal agencies
Knowledge of Federal Data Strategy, FISMA, and related compliance frameworks
Experience with middleware platforms (e.g., WebLogic, Tomcat)
Experience with automation/scripting (Python, Bash, or similar)
Familiarity with CIDR and network-aware data environments
Experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Exposure to AI/ML data pipelines and advanced analytics
Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, DAMA, Security)
