Our client is seeking an Data Engineer - Legacy Migration for Remote to Florida.
Role Description
This role involves deep data analysis, transformation, and integration work, requiring both technical expertise and problem-solving creativity. The ideal candidate will be proficient in C#, have a working understanding of VB, and be comfortable using Python scripting for efficient data translation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
β’ Proficiency in C# with the ability to write clean, maintainable code.
β’ Working knowledge of VB to understand and interpret legacy application logic.
β’ Strong experience with Python scripting for data manipulation and automation.
β’ Solid understanding of SQL and relational database design.
β’ Ability to analyze unfamiliar codebases and data structures.
β’ Experience with ETL processes and data conversion best practices.
β’ Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Legacy Data Migration:
β’ Analyze and interpret complex legacy data structures from a VB application.
β’ Migrate data into a new legacy database system, adapting schemas as needed.
β’ Expand or contract data models to ensure compatibility and integrity.
β’ Data Analysis and Mapping:
β’ Understand and document the structure and semantics of both source and target databases.
β’ Develop data mapping strategies that account for non-1:1 relationships.
β’ Programming and Scripting:
β’ Write and maintain scripts in Python for data transformation and automation.
β’ Develop supporting tools and utilities in C# to facilitate migration.
β’ Interpret and work with VB code to extract business logic and data rules.
β’ Testing and Validation:
β’ Validate data integrity post-migration through rigorous testing and debugging.
β’ Collaborate with QA and stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness.
β’ Collaboration and Communication:
β’ Work closely with analysts, DBAs, and stakeholders to gather requirements and clarify data meanings.
β’ Participate in regular project meetings and provide status updates.
β’ Documentation and Support:
β’ Document data mappings, transformation logic, and migration processes.
β’ Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting during and after migration.
