Role description
On behalf of HM Treasury we are looking for a Data Engineer (Inside IR35) for a 4 month contract. Hybrid working with 3 days per week required in London.
If you’re interested in making a difference to people’s lives, HM Treasury can offer you an exciting opportunity to influence decision making that affects the whole of the UK. Working at the heart of government, we collaborate across government to promote responsible public spending and drive strong and sustainable economic growth.
Our work ranges from protecting customers through the regulation of the financial sector, helping to reduce carbon emissions and creating a greener economy, to promoting British trade around the world and supporting people across the country on jobs, growth and more.
HMT has a range of corporate systems for various uses, including HR, payroll, travel, benefits, procurement, and several others. These are all separate, built under different technologies. The project is to create pipelines to access data from all these systems, bring them into a single data warehouse for use across the department. This will enable timely reporting and linking of data across systems.
As a Data Engineer your main responsibilities will be to:
• Map data stored in existing systems.
• Elicit customer needs and designing a system to meet those needs.
• Develop the new system iteratively, seeking feedback from customer and technical teams.
• Share plans, challenges and learnings with technical teams.
• Communicate progress with customer and technical teams.
Essential:
• An active SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. (Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.)
• Strong Python and SQL programming experience.
• Experience of creating and maintaining Data Pipelines.
• Data Warehousing experience.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and experience.
Desirable:
• Experience creating and maintaining pipelines and data warehouses in Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience with corporate systems for payments, HR, travel or procurement.
Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.
Disability Confident
As a member of the Disability Confident Scheme, HM Treasury guarantees to interview all candidates who have a disability and who meet all the essential criteria for the vacancy. In cases where we have a high volume of candidates who have a disability who meet all the essential criteria, we will interview the best candidates from within that group. This scheme encourages candidates with a disability and/or neurodivergence to apply. In exceptional circumstances, we may also need to apply the desirable criteria in our shortlisting process which may include holding active security clearance.
In applying for this role, you acknowledge the following "this role falls in scope of the Off Payroll Working in the Public Sector legislation. Any rates of payment quoted will reflect the gross rate per day for the assignment and will be subject to appropriate taxes and statutory costs. As such the payment to the intermediary and your income resulting from this contract will be different".
