Job Description
We are seeking a customer experience focused Data Modeler & Architect to bridge the gap between business needs and cutting-edge data solutions. In this role, you will translate customer challenges into powerful insights that drive innovation, efficiency, and strategic growth. Working directly with client stakeholders, you'll transform business requirements into comprehensive data models while ensuring data accuracy and efficiency for analysis and reporting.
You'll support a multi-functional team in creating, validating, and delivering reports, data extracts, dashboards, and other critical data products for the ATF program. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on mission-critical government operations while working with cutting-edge Azure cloud technologies and data architectures.
The ideal candidate is mission-focused and delivery-oriented, applying critical thinking to create innovative solutions and solve complex technical challenges in a government contracting environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Work with business users to understand data needs, processes, and operational challenges
• Collaborate with business analysts, system owners, and stakeholders to gather detailed requirements
• Create and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models supporting business requirements and analytics
• Develop source-target mappings and recommend data standards while identifying quality issues
• Communicate with stakeholders to ensure model understanding and support query/report development
• Optimize models for Azure cloud architectures including data lake medallion, Synapse Analytics, and SQL Managed Instance
• Support reengineering efforts transitioning from legacy Enterprise Data Warehouse to Azure Data Lake Platform
• Enhance data models for performance, quality, and scalability improvements
• Collaborate with data governance teams to implement standards for vocabulary, formats, and reference data
• Work with DevOps teams to provide implementation support and technical guidance
• Provide hands-on support for reporting, data requests, and various data delivery methods
• Ensure compliance with data governance frameworks, security practices, and regulations
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data models and processes
• Implement data modeling standards and best practices across projects
• Troubleshoot data-related issues and provide ongoing technical support
Required Experience/Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 12+ years of relevant experience
• 6+ years of proven data modeling experience with Microsoft enterprise data warehousing and analytical models
• 4+ years of direct experience working with client stakeholders and business users on data needs analysis
• Proficiency in developing transactional/dimensional data models, source-target mapping, and data transformation logic
• Demonstrated experience creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models
• Strong background in subject-specific domain data model development for reporting and queries
• Understanding of various database technologies including relational, dimensional, NoSQL, and data lake medallion
• Proficiency with Microsoft tools: SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS cubes, and Power BI
• Expert-level skills in SQL, T-SQL, Python, or PowerShell scripting languages
• Experience with Azure Data Lake Services, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure SQL MI, and related services
• Proven experience advising ETL and data engineering teams
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience with Agile DevOps methodology and practices
• Open mindset with continuous learning ability and quick technology adoption
• US Citizenship required with ability to obtain or already have government-issued Public Trust clearance
Nice-to-Haves
• Microsoft certification in Azure fundamentals, data engineering, AI, or data analytics
• Data management certification such as DAMA DMBOK
• Experience working on Generative AI projects and implementations
• Previous experience supporting federal government programs or agencies
• Background in law enforcement or justice department data systems
• Experience with data lake medallion architecture implementations
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related technical field required.
