Job Type: Contract-to-Hire (Try/Buy)
Location: Remote (US-based)
Salary: 150K to 180K
About the Opportunity:
A fast-growing consulting and technology firm specializing in data-driven solutions for the clinical research, biotechnology, and life sciences industries is seeking a skilled Data Scientist for a unique try/buy engagement. This role offers the chance to showcase your expertise in real-world, high-impact projects before converting to a permanent position.
As a Data Scientist, you will work closely with cross-functional teamsβincluding clinical experts, data engineers, and product managersβto design, build, and deploy models and analytics solutions that accelerate research, optimize clinical trials, and support data-driven decision-making in regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Analyze complex clinical, genomic, or biomedical datasets to identify patterns, trends, and actionable insights.
β’ Develop and validate predictive and prescriptive models to support drug discovery, biomarker identification, patient stratification, or clinical trial optimization.
β’ Collaborate with stakeholders to translate scientific and clinical objectives into data science approaches.
β’ Communicate findings clearly to technical, scientific, and non-technical audiences through reports, dashboards, and presentations.
β’ Build and automate data pipelines to process structured and unstructured healthcare and life sciences data.
β’ Support the design and analysis of experiments, including clinical studies and A/B testing for product features.
Qualifications:
β’ Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related field.
β’ 3+ years of experience in a data science or advanced analytics role, preferably in biotechnology, life sciences, or healthcare.
β’ Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and modeling.
β’ Strong experience with machine learning libraries (e.g., scikit-learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
β’ Solid understanding of SQL and experience working with clinical or laboratory data in relational databases.
β’ Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, matplotlib, seaborn).
β’ Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex scientific and analytical concepts.
β’ Knowledge of regulatory considerations (e.g., HIPAA, GxP) is a plus.
Nice to Have:
β’ Familiarity with bioinformatics tools, statistical genetics, or working with omics datasets.
β’ Experience integrating real-world data (EHRs, claims data) or electronic data capture systems used in clinical trials.
β’ Background in natural language processing for clinical notes or unstructured medical data.
β’ Experience with big data frameworks (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
What We Offer:
β’ A unique try/buy engagement: the opportunity to demonstrate your skills during a contract phase before potential full-time hire.
β’ Fully remote work with flexible scheduling.
β’ The chance to contribute to cutting-edge projects that impact patient outcomes and accelerate scientific innovation.
β’ A collaborative team environment at the intersection of data science and life sciences.
