Job Title: Data Scientist Industry: Energy / Utilities Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid – 4 days onsite, 1 day remote) Compensation: $65/hr Employment Type: Contract – 12 months Visa Sponsorship: Available (H1B considered) Hours: 40 per week Background/References: 10-year background check + drug screen required Travel: Not required Overview We are seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join a leading energy sector project. This individual will apply advanced statistical and programming expertise to analyze complex datasets, build predictive models, and uncover insights that support strategic business decisions. The role requires a strong foundation in the scientific method, data wrangling, and machine learning, with the ability to communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. Key Responsibilities • Apply advanced statistical methods and programming skills to analyze and interpret data. • Perform data wrangling, analysis, and exploration across large, complex datasets. • Build and validate machine learning and statistical models to support business needs. • Develop data visualizations and dashboards to communicate insights clearly. • Work with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements. • Stay current with emerging tools, frameworks, and best practices in data science. • Ensure compliance with company standards for data security and governance. Required Skills & Qualifications • 5–10 years of professional experience in data science or advanced analytics. • Proficiency in statistics and at least one programming language (R or Python preferred). • Experience with machine learning algorithms and big data processing frameworks. • Hands-on experience building predictive and statistical models. • Strong background in data wrangling, analysis, and exploration. • Proven ability to create data visualizations that drive actionable insights. Preferred Skills • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms. • Prior experience in the energy, utilities, or industrial sectors. • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
