Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) for a remote 6-month contract engagement. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, managing, and maintaining critical database systems while ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, proactive monitoring, and the ability to support backup and recovery solutions in a secure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, upgrade, and configure database management systems and applications.
Maintain and monitor database operations, including daily health checks and performance tuning.
Perform query optimization and storage capacity planning to ensure high availability and scalability.
Implement and manage data backup and recovery procedures to protect against data loss or cyber incidents.
Enforce database security policies to prevent unauthorized access and potential threats.
Collaborate with developers and IT teams to support application integration and performance needs.
Monitor and troubleshoot system performance issues and recommend solutions for improvement.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
3+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
Proficiency in administering one or more of the following: SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
Experience with backup and recovery tools and disaster recovery planning.
Strong skills in database tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, or GCP Cloud SQL).
Understanding of database security best practices and compliance standards.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle DBA, or AWS/Azure cloud databases.
Experience with automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
Experience working in agile or DevOps environments.
