Job Summary:
As a Database Architect, you will play a critical role in leading the design and implementation of Indigenous Pact’s enterprise data architecture and modern Azure Data Lake environment. You will architect solutions that enable secure, scalable, and high-performing data integration, warehousing, governance, and analytics across healthcare and Tribal systems.
Your work will shape the foundation of our cloud-based data infrastructure—ensuring it meets performance, compliance (HIPAA), and business intelligence needs. This position is central to our long-term data strategy and modernization roadmap.
Essential Job Functions:
• Lead architecture of Indigenous Pact’s Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, including partitioning strategy and data zone design (raw, refined, curated, sandbox).
• Define data ingestion, transformation, and storage patterns, and other efficient data formats.
• Develop and enforce data modeling standards, naming conventions, and metadata management strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and classify data entities for inclusion in the data lake.
• Analyze existing data sources, APIs, and reporting tools to map data lineage, quality issues, and integration patterns.
• Design scalable Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines, CDC strategies, and scheduling/orchestration workflows.
• Define and document technical architecture, ETL specifications, capacity plans, and network/data security requirements.
• Establish governance frameworks including data stewardship models, privacy and compliance controls (HIPAA, CCPA), and data quality standards.
• Develop and manage strategies for data lifecycle, archiving, disaster recovery, and performance optimization.
• Guide implementation of data dictionaries, business glossaries, and audit/compliance tracking systems.
• Participate in stakeholder validation sessions, technical feasibility reviews, and trial data loads.
• Support implementation teams (DBAs and developers) in deploying data systems into production environments.

Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure cloud data services: Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory.
• Experience designing data lake architectures, data zones, and cloud-native ETL pipelines.
• Proficiency in data modeling, schema design, and governance standards (e.g., master data, metadata).
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks (HIPAA, CCPA) and best practices in data security and auditing.
• Ability to analyze complex integration scenarios, APIs, and legacy data structures.
• Excellent written documentation and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
• Scripting proficiency using PowerShell, Python, or similar automation tools.
• Preferred: Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Data Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert).
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of progressive experience in data architecture or enterprise database design.
• Hands-on experience with large-scale data environments and healthcare data preferred.
• Experience implementing data lakes, data warehouses, or cloud-first data platforms in Azure.
