Role description
Position Title: Desktop Software Packaging Engineer (EOL Software Management) Location: Vienna, VA (Hybrid) Clearance Requirements: None Position Status: Contract Position Description: We are seeking a skilled Desktop Software Packaging Engineer to support an enterprise-wide End-of-Life (EOL) Software Management Initiative. This effort focuses on identifying, assessing, and retiring legacy, redundant, and unsupported applications to reduce risk, cost, and operational complexity. The ideal candidate will analyze enterprise software environments, evaluate application usage and support status, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute EOL strategies. This role requires both technical expertise in software packaging and strong analytical skills to support lifecycle management initiatives. Responsibilities: β€’ Lead and support full lifecycle EOL software project activities β€’ Conduct enterprise-wide software discovery, inventory, and usage analysis β€’ Identify unsupported, vulnerable, and redundant software applications β€’ Collaborate with security, compliance, engineering, and business teams to validate EOL candidates β€’ Plan and execute software decommissioning strategies β€’ Manage risks, issues, and change requests throughout the project lifecycle β€’ Document findings, decisions, and remediation plans β€’ Present recommendations to both technical and business stakeholders β€’ Ensure compliance with internal standards and industry best practices Software Packaging & Deployment: β€’ Perform pre-packaging research and validation β€’ Package and repackage applications using standard tools β€’ Conduct quality control and validation of software packages β€’ Integrate applications into Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) β€’ Validate install/uninstall processes via MECM β€’ Create and manage Active Directory groups for application deployments β€’ Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with stakeholders β€’ Create user/device collections using queries or tools β€’ Manage pilot and production deployments via MECM β€’ Retire and remove legacy software from AD, MECM, and MDT β€’ Communicate software updates, deployments, and retirements to stakeholders Required Skills/Education: β€’ 5–10 years of relevant experience in software packaging or desktop engineering β€’ Strong understanding of software lifecycle management and EOL processes β€’ Proficiency in PowerShell, SQL, WQL, and Power BI β€’ Experience with software inventory and discovery tools β€’ Hands-on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) β€’ Experience with packaging, repackaging, and deployment technologies β€’ Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Mac, or VDI enterprise environments β€’ Experience with change management processes and ticketing systems β€’ Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills β€’ Excellent communication and documentation abilities β€’ Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Desired Skills / Qualifications: β€’ Experience with Splunk and/or UberAgent β€’ Experience with InstallShield and Liquidware FlexApp β€’ 3+ years of Software Package Engineering experience About Seneca Resources At Seneca Resources, we are more than just a staffing and consulting firm, we are a trusted career partner.
