Orion Group is seeking an experienced and visionary Director, Global Real-World Data (RWD) Strategy & Sourcing to join our Real-World Evidence (RWE) Center of Expertise within the Medical Affairs + Health Impact (MHI) for our pharmaceutical client in Mettawa, IL!! This is a fully remote opportunity!
In this critical leadership role, you will define global RWD strategy, identify and evaluate innovative data sources, and partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure the right evidence to support the value of therapies.
You will serve as a strategic connector across Medical Affairs, Value & Evidence, Epidemiology, R&D, and Commercial teams—helping stay at the forefront of real-world evidence and Big Data innovation.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead global RWD strategy to address data gaps and support evidence generation.
• Evaluate the fitness-for-purpose of RWD through feasibility assessments, pilot studies, and exploratory analyses.
• Maintain deep knowledge of industry-leading RWD, Big Data innovations, and analytic methodologies.
• Identify, source, and manage external RWD vendors in partnership with cross-functional teams.
• Optimize data access and spend across Medical Affairs + Health Impact functions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of RWE CoE initiatives, modeling a culture of curiosity and innovation.
• Translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, including senior executives.
Qualifications
• PhD in Economics, Health Services, Health Economics, Epidemiology, or related field (Master’s considered with 8+ years of relevant experience).
• 5+ years of experience in health services and outcomes research, analyzing large healthcare datasets (claims, EHRs, registries).
• Pharmaceutical industry experience required.
• Expertise in IT infrastructure and analytics for structured and unstructured data (servers, databases, data lakes).
• Extensive knowledge of the global RWD ecosystem, vendors, and evolving trends.
• Proven ability to independently conduct exploratory analyses and data feasibility assessments.
• Strategic thinker with strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills.
• Executive presence with the ability to simplify complex data strategies for a broad range of stakeholders.
