Role description
DataStaff is seeking a Java/RHEL Developer for a long-term contract opportunity with one of our direct clients located in the Raleigh, NC area. β€’ This position is remote; however, the selected candidate must reside in North Carolina Description: Our client is seeking a Technical Specialist contractor analyst/designer/developer (>10 years experience) for the Engineering Application Services Department (EAS) to enhance a series of Java, C/C++ and asp.net/C# interfaces on an application for the department called HiCAMS. HiCAMS is a custom, client-server application used to track work, materials and payments on the Division of Highways Construction projects. We have many Java, C/C++ and asp.net/C# interfaces with various internal and external systems that need to be maintained and enhanced. Additionally, there is a list of new interfaces and web applications tied to HiCAMS that our clients want to have developed in the future. The initial assignment will be to solve a Java-related upgrade problem in our Red Hat Enterprise Linux server environment. Our Linux administrator wants to upgrade Linux from RHEL 7.0 to RHEL 8.0 and eventually RHEL 9.0, but the upgrade currently causes our Java interfaces to fail. We need someone who can diagnose the error/problem and create a solution to allow our Java interfaces to work under the newer Red Hat version(s). We also have some business logic changes/enhancements to some of our Java interfaces that we need coded/tested/applied. Additional work will involve analyzing/designing/coding/testing bug fixes and other functional enhancements to the system and its interfaces. Knowledge and Experience: β€’ Practical experience with all phases of the standard software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, unit & system testing, quality assurance testing β€’ Experience with business process transformation. β€’ Experience designing and interfacing with SharePoint and web-based solutions Required Skills: β€’ 10 Years - Significant development experience in Java, particularly solving library and compatibility issues between versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. β€’ 10 Years - Strong SQL skills (HiCAMS uses a Sybase database but SQL skills in any database platform are acceptable) β€’ 5 Years - Experience working in a remote software development environment β€’ 10 Years - Strong analytical, conceptual, and technical skills β€’ 10 Years - Positive interpersonal skills coupled with an independent, self-motivated work ethic β€’ 10 Years - Proven written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain business processes to IT users and IT applications to business users Desired Skills: β€’ 5 Years - Development experience in C# β€’ 5 Years - Development experience in C/C++ β€’ 5 Years - Experience coding stored procedures and triggers (any database) β€’ 5 Years - Experience developing .NET applications and API’s in a Visual Studio environment β€’ 5 Years - Data conversion experience This opportunity is available on a corp-to-corp basis or as a W2 position with a competitive benefits package.
