Role description
Kong API Gateway Engineer 12 Months Fort Mill, SC (3 days/week onsite) Financial Client Key Responsibilities β€’ API Gateway Management: Deploy, configure, and manage Kong API Gateway across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments. β€’ API Development & Integration: Design and implement APIs, custom plugins, and backend integrations. Strong API orchestration knowledge required. β€’ Security & Performance: Enforce API security (OAuth2, JWT, mTLS), ensure high availability, and optimize performance. β€’ Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Set up monitoring/logging (Dynatrace, ELK) and proactively resolve API issues. β€’ Collaboration & Documentation: Work with Dev, Ops, and Security teams; maintain clear API and config documentation. β€’ Automation & Best Practices: Support CI/CD processes, implement Terraform-based automation, and promote API management best practices. Required Qualifications β€’ Kong Expertise: Hands-on experience with Kong architecture, configuration, and plugin development. β€’ API & Security Standards: Strong grasp of RESTful APIs, OpenAPI, OIDC, and microservices. β€’ DevOps & Scripting: Proficiency in Lua/Python; experience with Git, GitHub Actions, CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes. β€’ Cloud & Security: Familiarity with AWS/Azure/GCP and API security tools (OAuth, OIDC, Auth0). β€’ Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, debugging, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Desired Qualifications β€’ Kong or related technical certifications. β€’ Experience with API testing tools (Postman, JMeter, Insomnia). β€’ Knowledge of integration platforms (IBM DataPower, WebSphere MQ). β€’ Experience with Confluence for documentation.
