Job Title: Lead API Developer
Location: Marland (Local) (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Lead API Developer (Applications Development Expert) to design and deliver enterprise-level applications and integration solutions that align with long-term IT strategy. This individual will act as a technical expert, mentor, and key resource across multiple disciplines, driving enterprise application integration with a strong focus on healthcare interoperability.
Responsibilities:
β’ Developing enterprise-level applications and custom integration solutions, including major enhancements and interfaces, functions, and features;
β’ Providing expertise regarding the integration of applications across the business;
β’ Determining specifications, then planning, designing, and developing the most complex and business-critical software solutions, utilizing appropriate software engineering processes (either individually or in concert with a project team);
β’ Assisting in the most difficult support problems;
β’ Developing programming and development standards and procedures as well as programming architectures for code reuse;
β’ Understanding and consistently applying the attributes and processes of current application development methodologies;
β’ Researching and maintaining knowledge in emerging technologies and their possible application to the business; and
β’ Acting as an internal consultant, advocate, mentor, and change agent.
Additional Application Integration & Architecture Responsibilities Include:
β’ Serve as the FHIR API Lead, leveraging FHIR and HL7 standards to support CMS Interoperability Rule 0057-F and enable secure and efficient healthcare data exchange.
β’ Design and implement FHIR-based solutions to expose clinical and claims data via standardized APIs using cloud platforms such as AWS.
β’ Develop and maintain Enterprise Integration Architecture guidelines and policies, with emphasis on SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) principles.
β’ Collaborate with developers to build mapping between source and target data formats, including database, flat files, X12, JSON, XML, HL7v2, and FHIR.
β’ Guide teams on application web service and API integration with a focus on scalability, performance, security, and reliability.
β’ Design reusable components, standards, frameworks, and processes to support enterprise-level application integration and web services.
β’ Ensure compliance with integration design standards, patterns, and best practices.
β’ Work with architects and developers to align integration solutions with enterprise architecture.
β’ Analyze, review, and recommend improvements to expand and mature enterprise application integration strategies.
β’ Support governance board activities by reviewing application integration changes and architectural decisions.
β’ Promote continuous improvement through evaluation of emerging technologies and interoperability standards.
β’ Participate in CI/CD pipeline development and automation, using tools like Git and Jenkins.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience. (A Master's degree is preferred.)
General Experience (10+ years IT & industry experience):
β’ 2+ years hands-on with FHIR standards (resources, profiles, implementation guides).
β’ 2+ years with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7, CCDA).
β’ Strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), CI/CD principles, and version control (Git).
β’ Experience with cloud integration (AWS, Mulesoft, or ESB platforms).
β’ Proficiency in SOAP/RESTful web services, JMS/EMS, networking, API security, and automation tools (Jenkins).
Specialized Experience (3+ years as a technical expert):
β’ Coaching/mentoring junior technical staff and contributing to enterprise IT decisions.
β’ Leading enterprise-wide application and integration efforts.
β’ Translating complex integration concepts, particularly HL7/FHIR healthcare data exchanges.
β’ In-depth expertise in modern programming languages, OOD, coding, testing, and debugging.
β’ Strong domain knowledge in healthcare systems & interoperability.
β’ Excellent problem-solving, multitasking, and communication skills.
β’ Experience in Agile & SDLC-based environments.
