Role description
Role: Lead Data Engineer / Data Architecture Strategist
Location: Minneapolis (Bloomington) - 2-3 days onsite required
Client seeking a visionary Lead Data Engineer with strong architectural acumen to drive the design, development, and governance of enterprise-scale data solutions. This role blends hands-on engineering with strategic oversight, ensuring that MAC's data infrastructure is robust, scalable, and aligned with long-term business goals.
As a technical leader, you will architect and guide the implementation of modern data platforms, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to deliver high-impact analytics solutions that power data-driven decision-making across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
β’ Architect and lead the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms using Azure Synapse Analytics, Data Lake, and related services.
β’ Design and implement enterprise data models, data lakehouse structures, and semantic layers to support advanced analytics and self-service BI.
β’ Oversee the creation of automated data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and orchestration using Python, PySpark, and Azure Data Factory.
β’ Champion data governance, quality, and security best practices, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards.
β’ Lead the development of Power BI solutions and enterprise dashboards, enabling real-time insights and operational visibility.
β’ Collaborate with business units to translate strategic objectives into scalable data solutions and mentor junior engineers on best practices.
β’ Drive the adoption of DevOps and CI/CD practices in data engineering, including version control, testing, and deployment automation.
β’ Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, tools, and frameworks to continuously evolve MAC's data ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
β’ Proven experience in data engineering leadership or architecture roles, with a track record of delivering enterprise-scale data solutions.
β’ Deep expertise in SQL, Python, and Azure Synapse Analytics, including performance tuning and distributed computing.
β’ Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and dimensional design principles.
β’ Proficiency in Power BI and DAX for building scalable, interactive dashboards.
β’ Experience with data lake architectures, schema evolution, and metadata management.
β’ Familiarity with data security, privacy frameworks, and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA).
β’ Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business domains.
Preferred Qualifications
β’ Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Delta Lake, or Databricks.
β’ Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks, orchestration tools, and workflow automation.
β’ Knowledge of Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines in a data engineering context.
β’ Exposure to cloud infrastructure design and cost optimization strategies.
