Role description
Title: Lead Data Engineer with FactSet benchmark/ State Street benchmark data Experience
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 12-24+ Months
Desired Candidate Profile
• Expert understanding of financial benchmark data across major index providers.
• Strong understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) concepts — ideally in financial services, but strong MDM experience in any industry will be considered.
• Strong understanding of relational database technologies across multiple platforms.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and service-oriented design.
• Well-versed with back-end application development using Python.
• Web application support mindset — not necessarily a React front-end developer, but someone who understands how a front end talks to a back end, can troubleshoot typical web app error codes, read logs, and reason about microservices and performance.
• Works effectively both as a contributing team member and independently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• 10+ years development experience with a fast-paced programming mentality and quick solution turnaround.
• Experience working with FactSet benchmark data and State Street benchmark data.
Required Skills
• Expertise in SQL across multiple relational databases (Snowflake, Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle).
• Expertise in Master Data Management implementation in modern data platforms such as Snowflake.
• Proficient with object-oriented development and backend components using Python.
• Proficient in ETL and ELT concepts and techniques.
• Experience supporting microservices web applications hosted on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Experience in DevOps: GitLab CI/CD pipelines (both YAML and UI based).
• Knowledge of best practices for code quality, testing, and performance optimization.
• Experience using API protocols such as REST and GraphQL.
• Broad knowledge of the systems and business processes used for Middle Office and Back Office functions within investment banks or asset managers.
Desired Skills
• Experience with Azure cloud architecture (strongly preferred; AWS/GCP-only candidates will find this role challenging).
• Experience with DBT (Data Build Tool).
• Strong understanding of AI / ML concepts and implementations; exposure to AI coding tools such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot.
• Experience with Jira, full-stack web app support, and agile frameworks.
• Experience with Linux and shell scripting.
