Role description
Nuclear Restoration Services Limited (NRS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA). NRS is responsible for decommissioning first generation nuclear power stations Berkeley, Bradwell, Chapelcross, Dungeness A, Hinkley Point A, Hunterston A, Oldbury, Sizewell A, Trawsfynydd and Wylfa, and research sites Harwell and Winfrith. NRS is also responsible for electricity generation at hydroelectric plant Maentwrog. As a division of NRS, NRS Dounreay is responsible for the clean-up and demolition of the former centre of fast reactor research and development. About The Role Hear from the Hiring Manager "We are seeking an experienced Azure Operations Specialist to support our IT modernisation initiatives and drive the adoption of Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 technologies across the organisation. In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the M365/Azure Team Manager and collaborate with our M365 Operations and Power Platform Centre of Excellence to deliver secure, compliant, and high-performing cloud solutions that align with business goals. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team focused on establishing and scaling a modern M365/Azure service, enhancing user experience and maximising business value through cloud innovation." Working in a hybrid arrangement, the role can be based at any of our sites across the UK and will require flexibility to travel to other sites on an ad hoc basis. It is expected that you will work at an NRS Site for at least two days per week. Key Deliverables Provide operational support for core Azure infrastructure and services, including system administration and application platform maintenance. Implement Azure solutions aligned with data, application, automation and reporting strategies. Configure and manage Azure monitoring, alerting and reporting tools, with a strong focus on service health and incident response. Promote DevOps best practices, leveraging Azure DevOps tools to enable automation, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD), and infrastructure as code (IaC) via Terraform Collaborate with Cyber Security and M365 teams to identify and implement ongoing security and compliance improvements. Develop and maintain comprehensive operational documentation and support resources. Manage security incidents in coordination with our Global Security Operations Centre. Act as a liaison with Microsoft and other third-party support providers to ensure effective incident resolution and proactive service enhancement. Continuously evaluate and exploit the full potential of the Azure platform to deliver innovative and high-value business outcomes. Qualifications & Experience Microsoft certifications (Essential). Proven experience in Azure operational management, including implementation, support, and cloud security (Essential). Strong knowledge of: - Azure Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Storage solutions (Essential). Azure Operations Management Suite (OMS) (Essential). Azure DevOps, including Pipelines and Agile/CI/CD methodologies (Essential). Database technologies including MS SQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL (Desirable). Azure Data Factory, Data Pipelines and Data Catalogue (Desirable). Scripting using PowerShell or Bash (Essential). Infrastructure as Code utilising Terraform (Desirable). Logging, alerting and performance monitoring with Azure Monitor (Essential). Additional Information A proactive mindset, strong communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, agile environment are crucial. This role plays a critical part in modernising infrastructure and enabling digital transformation at scale. Must be able to gain or currently hold UK Security Clearance to ‘SC’ level. Flexible working – where possible. The equivalent of 25 days (185 hours per year) annual leave plus Public Holidays (59.2 hours per year). This increases by 2 days (14.8 hours per year) annual leave after two full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year) , and an additional 3 days (22.2 hours per year) annual leave after five full calendar years of service (as at 5th January in the leave year). You also have the option to buy or sell the equivalent of 5 days (37 hours) annual leave each year (available in specific windows for the following holiday year). For the purpose of assessing an employee’s annual leave entitlement, a day means seven and two fifths (7.4) hours. A pro rata entitlement will apply for part time workers.
