Contract Data Analyst - Specialist in Behavioural & Statistical Analytics
Location: Hybrid - Reading & London
Day Rate: £450-£500 Outside IR35
Contract Length: 3-6 Months
Start: ASAP
A leading research and data-driven organisation is looking for a Specialist Data Analyst to join their behavioural insights function. This is not a junior or generalist role - they are seeking someone with deep, hands-on expertise in statistical analysis and behavioural analytics to support large-scale, human-centred research work. You'll play a pivotal role in uncovering complex patterns in behavioural data and translating them into meaningful insight.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead sophisticated statistical analysis of large behavioural and marketing datasets (e.g. regression modelling, clustering, distributions).
• Apply behavioural analytics frameworks to identify, explain, and visualise user trends and profile patterns.
• Use Python and SQL to automate analysis, build tools, and process complex datasets.
• Support research teams with data validation, insight generation, and hypothesis testing.
• Collaborate through in-person whiteboarding and analysis sessions in Reading and London.
Essential Expertise
• Specialist-level experience in applied statistics - including modelling, probability, and advanced quantitative techniques.
• Proven background in behavioural data analysis - particularly in survey, profiling, or human-interaction datasets.
• Strong command of SQL and Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
• Ability to work with large and unstructured datasets in exploratory environments.
• Research background (academic or applied) is a strong advantage.
Ideal Candidate
• Highly analytical, with a strong sense of curiosity and behavioural understanding.
• Research-minded, with a track record of uncovering patterns and turning them into actionable insights.
• Communicates clearly and directly - straight-talking, no ego, solution-oriented.
• Experience navigating ambiguity and independently identifying meaningful signals in complex data.
Interview Process
• Stage 1: Interview with hiring lead - focused on technical depth and communication approach.
• Stage 2: Interview with the wider team - discussing statistical projects, behavioural insight examples, and exploratory problem-solving.
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience
Specialist-level statistical analysis (regression, clustering, distributions)
Behavioural data analysis and user profiling
SQL for data extraction and manipulation
Python for data analysis and automation
Working with large and unstructured datasets
