Position Title: SQL DBA
Location Information: Plano area
Position Responsibilities:
Client is seeking a forward-thinking SQL Server DBA to manage and evolve our hybrid database infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments (Azure/AWS). This role ensures high availability, security, and performance of our online transaction processing systems, while guiding cross-functional teams to achieve enterprise-grade scalability and reliability. Youβll collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, Security, and Data teams to modernize database systems, introduce automation and monitoring, and drive innovation across the stack.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Manage SQL Server databases across on-prem, cloud, and containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes) β On-prem right now-moving to the cloud
β’ Implement database automation using tools like PowerShell, Terraform (preferred), or DBATools for backups, provisioning, and patching
β’ Monitor performance and availability using platforms like Azure Monitor, Grafana, or Prometheus
β’ Collaborate on cloud migrations and hybrid strategiesβAzure SQL, Managed Instances, or AWS RDS/EC2
β’ Develop database observability practices, including query optimization, telemetry, and alerts
β’ Experience with database solutions for resiliency, high performance, and scalability
β’ Familiar with security models including access control, encryption, and vulnerability assessments
β’ Enable disaster recovery with technologies like Availability Groups, cloud backups, and failover clusters
β’ Guide development teams in efficient data modeling, schema management, and CI/CD database practices
β’ Stay current on emerging tools like SQL Server 2022, Fabric, or serverless compute patterns
Essential Skills, Experience
β’ Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
β’ 3β5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (SQL Server 2017+ preferred)
β’ 2β3 years in hybrid or cloud-based environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS)
β’ Strong understanding of RDBMS theory, architecture, and performance tuning
β’ Experience with PowerShell, T-SQL, or Python for scripting and automation
β’ Familiarity with containerized deployments and infrastructure-as-code
β’ Exposure to DevOps workflows, Git-based repositories, and CI/CD pipelines
β’ Skilled in data visualization and reporting tools (Power BI, SSRS)
β’ Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
