Sr Data Analyst (ETL)
Introduction:
Seeking a Sr Data Analyst with strong ETL development experience to support the HR1 project within the VA EDWS environment. The role focuses on designing, building, testing, and supporting data processing and data transfers for HR/Medicaid-related data domains. The candidate will work across the full SDLC and interact directly with customers and the project team.
Responsibilities:
• Design, develop, and maintain ETL processes for data ingestion, transformation, and delivery within the VA EDWS environment.
• Participate in all SDLC phases: requirements analysis, technical design, development, unit testing, system/integration testing, and production support.
• Build and optimize SQL and ETL jobs to ensure data accuracy, performance, and reliability.
• Validate and reconcile source-to-target data mappings and perform root-cause analysis for data quality issues.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, customers, developers, testers, and network analysts to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
• Produce technical documentation, runbooks, and deployment artifacts.
• Support deployments, resolve production incidents, and implement data fixes as required.
Requirements:
• 3+ years of hands-on ETL development experience.
• 3-5 years experience interacting directly with customers/stakeholders; strong verbal and written communication.
• Experience working across full SDLC (requirements, design, build, test, production).
• Strong SQL skills and experience building, debugging, and tuning ETL jobs.
• Familiarity with healthcare or Medicaid data and analytics (1+ year preferred).
• Ability to work independently in a small cross-functional team and take ownership of deliverables.
• Must be able to work U.S. business hours (9am-5pm EST). Candidate must reside in VA099 region (telecommute).
Preferred qualifications:
• Prior experience within VA EDWS or similar enterprise data warehouse environments.
• Experience with specific ETL tools/platforms used in the enterprise (e.g., Informatica, DataStage, Talend, SSIS, or equivalent).
• Experience producing data transfer processes and working with HR data flows.
• Demonstrated success collaborating directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
Team structure:
• HR1 team: 1 Project Manager, 1 Developer, 1 Tester, 1 Network Analyst. Sr Data Analyst will collaborate closely with these members.
Interview process:
• Two rounds of video interviews. Expect moderate to high technical questions focused on ETL design, SQL, data reconciliation, and scenario-based problem solving. Behavioral questions will probe customer communication and past healthcare/Medicaid experience.
