Role description
Summary of the role
• Under general supervision, responsible for professional statistical analytic work of average difficulty.
• Serves as the advanced working-level class in the Statistical Analyst sub‑series; performs related work as required.
Key responsibilities (representative)
• Lead/perform statistical analysis and reporting; interpret results for program/leadership use.
• Develop/implement data collection systems and analytics strategies to optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
• Acquire, clean, validate, and maintain datasets; design and produce reports and visualizations.
• Identify trends/patterns in complex data and define process improvements.
Minimum qualifications
• Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree including at least six quarter hours in statistics, mathematics, and/or computer science and
• Two years of full‑time professional statistical work;
• OR graduate coursework may substitute year‑for‑year up to two years;
• OR qualifying statistical work experience may substitute for the required education up to four years.
Necessary special qualifications
• Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
• Basic knowledge of database connection protocols such as ODBC and OLEDB
• Intermediate understanding of database architecture and common database schemas
• Proficient in writing advanced retrieval queries in SQL (Transact SQL and Oracle SQL preferred) including, but not limited to:
• Understanding and identifying common issues in cardinality
• Handling incomplete and/or invalid data
• Understanding of data types and data transformations
• Broad knowledge of SQL functions and operators
• Using CTEs
• Using variables
• Understanding and executing pivots and unpivots
• Building tables and indices
• Creating and using views, user defined functions, and stored procedures
• Using control-of-flow language
• Analyzing and debugging SQL scripts
• Analyzing and optimizing SQL scripts for performance
