Role description
Tactical Sensor Systems Architect We are seeking a Tactical Sensor Systems Architect to design and build distributed software systems that ingest, interpret, and visualize real-time sensor information to support operational decision-making in complex environments. This role focuses on developing modular platforms that integrate heterogeneous sensing systems, perform low-latency data processing, and deliver actionable information through mission-ready visualization interfaces. The Tactical Sensor Systems Architect will work closely with AI engineers and AI-enabled DevOps teams to build resilient data pipelines, integrate intelligent processing capabilities, and deploy systems that operate reliably in bandwidth-constrained and resource-limited environments. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy working at the intersection of distributed systems, sensor integration, edge computing, and AI-enabled operational software platforms. About Adjective Adjective is an AI Engineering Studio focused on building advanced software systems for high-consequence environments. The studio designs and deploys AI-powered infrastructure that enables organizations to operate faster, safer, and with greater technical leverage. Our work centers on operational AI systems. We build agent-driven development pipelines, context-aware engineering tools, and infrastructure that helps teams integrate AI directly into real-world workflows. The goal is not experimentation, but reliable production systems that can be trusted in complex environments. Adjective develops both custom platforms and foundational technologies. This includes Zephyr, a lightweight cryptographic provenance layer that enables software systems and autonomous agents to produce verifiable records of how work was performed. These capabilities support environments where accountability, security, and reproducibility are critical. The studio works across government, defense, and commercial sectors to deliver resilient AI-enabled systems that combine autonomy with strong operational governance. What You’ll Work On • Architect distributed pipelines that ingest and normalize heterogeneous sensor streams • Design real-time data fusion systems that combine multiple sensing platforms into a unified operational view • Build software capable of operating on edge devices and resource-constrained hardware • Develop visualization frameworks that translate complex sensor data into clear, actionable operational insights • Collaborate closely with AI engineers to integrate machine learning pipelines and intelligent data processing systems • Work alongside AI-enabled DevOps teams to deploy and maintain robust, scalable sensor processing infrastructure • Implement secure data pipelines and system integrity mechanisms • Design systems that remain reliable in degraded communications environments • Produce system architecture documentation and technical specifications Required Experience • Experience designing complex distributed software systems • Strong background in real-time data processing architectures • Experience integrating multiple data sources or sensor platforms • Experience building systems that operate in edge or resource-constrained environments • Ability to translate research concepts into deployable prototypes Preferred Experience • Experience with TAK ecosystem tools (ATAK, WinTAK, TAK Server, TAK plugins) • Experience integrating software with mission systems or operational command platforms • Experience building systems that ingest ISR, telemetry, or environmental sensor feeds • Experience with sensor fusion or multi-source data aggregation systems • Experience deploying software into field or disconnected environments • Experience with edge compute platforms, robotics systems, or autonomous platforms • Experience building real-time visualization or situational awareness interfaces • Experience commercializing applied research Helpful Technical Background • Python, Rust, Go, or C++ • Distributed messaging systems • Streaming data architectures • Edge computing platforms • Containerized deployments • AI/ML model integration in production systems What Success Looks Like • Design of a modular architecture capable of ingesting and interpreting multiple sensor inputs • Development of a working prototype demonstrating real-time data fusion and visualization • Integration of AI-assisted interpretation capabilities within the processing pipeline • A scalable roadmap for deploying the system across operational environments Why This Role Matters Modern operational environments produce vast volumes of sensor data. The ability to rapidly transform that data into clear situational understanding is becoming a defining advantage. The Tactical Sensor Systems Architect will play a key role in developing systems that help operators interpret complex environments, collaborate more effectively, and act with confidence. Due to the nature of this work supporting U.S. government programs, U.S. citizenship is required.
