β’ About Transaction Monitoring Controls & Strategy
The Transaction Monitoring Controls & Strategy provides the capabilities to devise and execute Transaction Monitoring (TM) Programme and Strategy that enables Barclays to;
β’ Maintain, enhance and govern TM capabilities across all business lines
β’ Meet its regulatory obligation to effectively monitor customer transactions, identifying potentially suspicious activity
β’ Ensure that the TM automated solutions are suitably fit for purpose, maintained, and optimised in accordance with the requirements of Barclays risk appetite
Overall purpose of role
This position will have a key role in contributing and delivering the FC Transactional Monitoring (TM) optimisation and strategy for in scope Barclays International (BI) business. The role will focus predominantly on the implementation and optimisation of Surveillance TM solutions
Key Accountabilities
β’ Effectively manage and support the Transaction Monitoring Risk Coverage Assessment to determine any enhancements to the TM system.
β’ Implementing, optimising, and tuning TM systems (Mantas/Actimize/Quantexa) or similar financial crime controls
β’ Running the end to end TM system implementation project with regular updates to internal and external stakeholders.
β’ Working in a regulated business environment with governance, control, and risk management exposure, ensuring adherence to action and escalation procedures
β’ Hands on tasks involving data exploration, analysis, and visualization.
β’ Maintain detailed documentation of all models, processes, and findings.
β’ Monitor and report model performance and identify potential issues or biases.
Stakeholder Management and Leadership
β’ Work closely with consumers of Internal Model Validation teams to ensure model capabilities and limitations are understood correctly.
β’ Provide ongoing guidance and support to business and technical stakeholders β acting as an interpreter between business and technical areas, explaining requirements and translating technical subject matter where appropriate.
β’ Maintain strong relationships with the broader Financial Crime team and agenda to inform/leverage future capabilities and drive requirements with the team.
β’ Promote an environment of high quality of delivery and continuous improvement β with particular focus on standardising, automating and optimising processes,
β’ Follow appropriate governance and oversight requirements, maintaining a correct audit trail where required.
Decision-making and Problem Solving
β’ Challenge existing processes and capabilities within the team, initiate and encourage improved ways of working to make the TM model development, design and approval process smooth.
β’ Continuously identify relevant data sources to meet Financial Crime priorities based on the limitations of existing dataset, market leading developments and direct stakeholder feedback.
β’ Work with teams in multiple business areas
Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:
β’ Proven experience of implementing TM systems in financial institutions. Self starter and ability to run independently with minimal supervision.
β’ Appreciation of financial crime, AML, and transaction monitoring/detection systems and processes, including AML and terrorist financing trends and typologies
β’ Data analysis using SQL, Python, etc
β’ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a considerable record of building relationships and engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders across functions
Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:
β’ Experience developing data visualizations/dashboards, preferably with Tableau.
β’ In-depth understanding of financial institution data (e.g., customer/account, transactional, payment),systems, and flows.
β’ Exposure to common Transaction Monitoring systems (Actimize SAM, Oracle Mantas, Quantexa etc.)
β’ Understanding of statistical concepts such as descriptive statistics, sampling, classification etc. and its application towards setting up and optimizing TM systems
