Role description
β’ Contract to Hire as a W2 employee of Talent Groups to start.
β’ Remote, working CST hours, with preference for Dallas-Metro local candidates.
We are seeking a hands-on Senior OpenStack Engineer to join our infrastructure team. This role will step into a fully built OpenStack environment spanning 9 data centers, with the goal of maintaining, scaling, and building out the next generation of private cloud infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
β’ Administer and scale a large, distributed OpenStack environment.
β’ Work with OpenStack core services (Nova, Neutronβincluding custom drivers, Keystone).
β’ Manage KVM/QEMU virtualization, Ceph storage, and OpenShift containers at multi-petabyte scale.
β’ Automate infrastructure using Ansible, Terraform, or related IAC tools like OpenTofu, Salt, Pulumi.
β’ Perform Linux performance tuning, including bare metal optimization and eBPF tracing.
β’ Use DCIM tools for hardware/inventory management.
β’ Lead hardware qualification, purchasing, and compute capacity planning for OpenStack.
β’ Deep networking expertise including VLAN and VXLAN.
β’ Engage vendors and support purchasing decisions when needed.
β’ Join on-call rotation for support and incident response.
Requirements:
β’ Strong experience building and administering OpenStack in production across multiple data centers.
β’ Proficiency with KVM/QEMU, Ceph, and OpenStack services (Nova, Neutron, Keystone).
β’ Experience with custom Neutron drivers a strong plus.
β’ OpenShift container experience at scale (multi-petabyte environments).
β’ Solid background in Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform, or similar).
β’ Deep Linux system knowledge, including bare metal and performance debugging (eBPF).
β’ Familiarity with DCIM tools (e.g., NetBox, Device42, or similar).
β’ Experience with hardware planning and purchasing for data center compute environments.
β’ Strong knowledge of networking, especially VLAN/VXLAN.
β’ Ability to pick up existing architecture and scale/build out next-gen systems.
