SQL Database Optimization Consultant

OverviewType: Contract / Short-term EngagementDuration: Project-based Responsibilities Perform a comprehensive audit of the existing SQL database schema and data. Identify: ◦ Tables that are unused or obsolete and can be safely removed.◦ Stale or unnecessary data that can be archived or deleted.◦ Inefficient queries, indexes, and structural bottlenecks. Recommend and, if possible, assist in implementing: ◦ Database performance improvements (e.g., indexing strategies, normalization/de-normalization).◦ Strategies for data lifecycle management and archival.◦ Optimizations suited for a tenant-based SaaS architecture. Collaborate with internal engineering and architecture teams to validate changes. Required Skills and Experience Proven experience with SQL performance tuning and relational database optimization (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server). Strong understanding of database architecture, indexing, and data modeling. Experience assessing and remediating legacy or bloated schemas. Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS architecture and database design considerations. Experience migrating or transforming legacy databases for SaaS products. Familiarity with database profiling tools and query analyzers. Knowledge of data retention policies, compliance, and archival strategies. Comfortable working with limited documentation and legacy systems. Clear, actionable communicator — able to present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
