The Utah Criminal Justice Center (UCJC) is housed in the College of Social Work and is a collaborative partnership between the University of Utah and the Utah Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice that supports interdisciplinary research, teaching, and training in the areas of criminal and juvenile justice. UCJC works toward reducing crime and victimization, inspiring sound public policy and fair treatment in the criminal and juvenile justice systems, and providing a model of higher education that promotes good governance through independent, non-partisan research and innovative programs. UCJC works with experts from inside and outside government both within Utah and across the United States to research and evaluate criminal justice solutions to contribute toward evidence-based policy change. Position Overview The position is a contractual, non-benefited, remote position that reports to the Director of the Utah Criminal Justice Center. Core Responsibilities β€’ Provide statistical leadership support (i.e., cleaning, merging, modeling, analysis, data management) for the UCJC team as we work toward project-specific goals. β€’ Independently write reports related to statistical findings and link them to larger research reports. β€’ Create digestible data visualizations for lay audiences. β€’ Attend and engage in research/data meetings with internal UCJC team and external partners, as needed. β€’ Consult on statistical methods that align with proposed research studies. β€’ Collaborate with other team members and external stakeholders as needed. Required Qualifications β€’ Ph.D. in criminology/criminal justice, sociology, or aΒ related field. β€’ 6Β years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years in a leading statistical role on significant policy-relevant criminal justice research projects β€’ Deep understanding of R, R Markdown, SPSS, and Excel, as well as Tableau or other data visualization software β€’ Specific skills in at least 3 of the following statistical analyses: Interrupted Time Series, Regression Point Displacement, Survival Analysis, Inter-rater Reliability, Item Response Theory, Predictive Validity β€’ Understanding of the criminal justice system and criminal justice policy β€’ Ability to work independently to complete deliverables on time. β€’ Ability to translate complex research findings and statistical analyses into key takeaways for diverse audiences Term This is non-benefitted, hourly contractual position. We anticipate a one-year contract, with opportunity to renew depending on performance. Other Opportunities for authorship on refereed publications will be determined on a case-by-case basis and are not a guarantee. Compensation Commensurate with skills and experience.
