Role description
Mission Statement: To awaken the world’s love for learning by building the most inspiring education platform of our time—where every lesson is powered by excellence, every game by joy, and every learner by AI. We begin with English, but our mission is vast: to carry the torch of education into every home, every heart, and every nation. From 22 years of unmatched teaching, we now rise as a digital force—reimagining what learning can be for the billions still waiting. Location: Remote (global) Position Type: Contracted We are seeking a technically skilled and systems-minded Technical Systems Designer to support the development of educational mobile games for adult learners. This is a remote, contracted role that blends software engineering with systems design, focused on building the logic and functionality that drive our gameplay loops. Although the title emphasizes "design," this is fundamentally a hands-on coding role. You’ll work closely with the Lead Game Designer and Gameplay Engineer to prototype, implement, and refine the underlying systems that power player progression, scoring, feedback, and in-game interactions. Your work will ensure that our games are not only functional and engaging, but also aligned with instructional goals and accessible to players across devices. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys architecting game systems, values collaboration, and is excited to apply their technical skills to a meaningful learning experience. Key Responsibilities ·       Design and illustrate detailed environments, characters, props, and visual effects for 2D and 3D educational mini games. ·       Design and implement modular gameplay systems using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with a focus on progression logic, scoring models, and in-game feedback triggers ·       Translate gameplay design documents into scalable, maintainable system architecture using data-driven design patterns ·       Coordinate with game designers, UX specialists, and instructional teams to align gameplay systems with learning objectives and user experience goals ·       Prototype and iterate on interactive systems using structured data formats (e.g., JSON) and logic-driven UI components ·       Collaborate with gameplay engineers to integrate systems into existing frameworks and ensure performance optimization across mobile platforms ·       Implement systems that support procedural content delivery, dynamic rule sets, or state management across levels and learning flows ·       Build and refine internal tooling, config files, and editor scripts to support content implementation by non-technical team members ·       Work within version-controlled environments (Git/GitHub) and maintain clean commit practices for collaborative development ·       Develop, test, and document reusable components and workflows that improve development efficiency and technical consistency Qualifications ·       Proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS for gameplay systems development and UI interaction ·       Ability to design and implement modular, data-driven systems using tools like JSON and API-based workflows ·       Comfort balancing technical system design with user experience and learning-focused goals ·       Strong communication and collaboration skills across remote teams and cross-functional disciplines ·       Experience using Git/GitHub and version control workflows in team-based development environments ·       Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently with minimal oversight ·       Open to feedback and iteration in fast-moving production pipelines ·       Passionate about using game mechanics and system design to support education and meaningful player engagement ·       Familiarity with remote collaboration tools such as Slack, Trello, and Jira Bonus Qualifications ·       Experience working in mobile game development ·       Background in designing procedurally generated games or dynamic content systems ·       Experience with Unity and/or Godot game engines Physical Requirements This is a remote, computer-based role. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting and working at a desk, as well as regular use of a computer, mouse, and keyboard. Additional Information • This is a contracted position.
